About Maggie's Place

Maggie’s Place is a non-profit organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of a network of community volunteers and parents interested in supporting families with young children.

Maggie’s Place is a joint project between Colchester and Cumberland counties. Both centres have been made possible by a financial contribution from the Community Action Program for Children (CAPC), Public Health Agency of Canada, in agreement with the province of Nova Scotia. We are also funded by the Province of Nova Scotia-Dept. of Community Services, United Way of Colchester and Cumberland County and through the generosity of the local communities.

Maggie's Place strives to strengthen and enhance the health and social development of children and families within their communities.

Who Is Maggie?

Maggie’s Place is named in memory of a 5 year old little girl, named Maggie. She died from complications of cerebral-occulo-facio-skeletal syndrome. Weighing only 8 lbs., Maggie was very much like a 6 month old baby when she died, but in many ways she was a regular kid. She giggled when a warm breeze blew on her face and she hated having her face washed. Everyone loved her a lot and she was a pretty terrific person. Remarkably, she reminded us that all persons have great value. Not to mention, she taught us that even tiny people can teach us enormous lessons, showing us how to go beyond the boundaries of our strength.Through her life, her death, and even now, Maggie is teaching all the people her life touched. Whether you have a child who presents the challenges Maggie gave us or whole different set of challenges, being a parent is the finest, most important work you will ever do.
